About MIISA

I am a wholehearted singer-songwriter originally from Turku and now based in Helsinki, Finland. I graduated from Turku University in 2017 and reached a masters degree from education after six years of studies. Yet all that time spent studying I knew that as soon as I graduated I would start focusing on my biggest passion – music. I’ve always sung in bands, choirs, solo etc., been playing instruments and written my own music but not until the past couple of years have I felt like I have done enough for my goal to become a fulltime artist, songwriter and a musician. My goal started to become my reality as in the fall 2017 I got accepted in Turun konservatorio to study pop & jazz singing and in the spring 2019 I graduated becoming a professional musician. From 2024 onwards I am studying in Metropolia University of Applied Sciences a Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Music Writing and Production (pop and jazz music, Musician) as my major subject.

Another big thing for my music career was when I was selected to be one of the 21 promising songwriters to take part of the Top 20 – Future Hitmakers course in 2018 where we had co-write sessions and wrote music for other artists, heard professionals from the music industry tell us valuable information and feedback to help us reach our goals and get into the business. I have got a lot more self-confidence and belief in myself as a musician which has pushed me to work even harder towards being a fulltime singer-songwriter. Now I know who I want to be as an artist and what I want my music to be like.

My Music

I started writing my own music very early in the childhood. Writing songs and singing them to people was – and still is – a very important way of expressing myself. I started by writing a couple of songs in Finnish but very soon changed it to English which felt more natural to me as I didn’t listen to any Finnish music at the time.

Nowadays I write music both in Finnish and English whichever suits the case better. My own pop songs are both in English and Finnish. My first release ‘Ruusulle’ is in Finnish as it was written for a musical dance theater piece. Also my second release that was a song called “En tunne mitään” by TAIKA where I am a featuring artist, is in Finnish. Whereas the first actual single release “Treadmill” is in English. While composing songs for the musical dance theatre piece The Little Prince I discovered my love for composing also theatrical music and I really wish that I will get more chances to do that in the future. My fourth release, Joulu baarissa, is a Christmas song in Finnish and was my first song release where I was also the music producer.

I’m the kind of person who still listens to full albums from the beginning to the end over and over again and I wish that I will be able to make and publish full albums in the future. My musical influences like Taylor Swift, Adele, Coldplay and MIKA can be heard from my music and seen from my stage presence. I would describe the genre for me as a performing artist to be soulful modern pop with some nuances of jazz.
