My debut EP ‘Maisema ilman sinua’ is out! I released my first EP on the 7th of November and had a nice release gig in John Scott’s Arkadia in Helsinki. Thank you for everyone who came to celebrate the release with me, it was an unforgettable night for me in all the best ways. I really appreciate all the nice feedback I have received and that people have been listening to my music a lot more this year than before. The process was intensive and inspiring and I’m really grateful for the people who helped me along the way, I would never have made this all by myself.

I’d like to thank my producer Vertti Cederberg, my executive producer Christina Daous, co-writer/producer Eemil Helin, co-writers Johanna Hänninen and Ville Karaksela, photographers Tiia Laukkanen and Noora Harjula, musicians Topi Nykänen, Josephine Lenick and Juho Mäntynen and also my teachers in Metropolia for advice and good teaching Juppu Mauranen and Jere Laukkanen, as well as Lempi Elo for taking care of my media contacting.

Go listen to my EP and tell what you like!
Thank you ❤

I have news! We have just uploaded my upcoming song to be released in a few weeks which I’m very excited about. The release date is the 16th of May – my favorite month of the year 😉 It is a pop song in Finnish and I have to say that I’m planning to release my music mainly in Finnish for now, in the future as well. I have found my voice and a way of writing in my mother tongue and it feels very good, even though I love to sing in English too! I hope you still enjoy my previous English releases Treadmill and Don’t Blame Me (Miisa’s Version).

And as I mentioned the future – I can reveal that I am in the process of making even more releases for this year and 2025 is going to be the biggest release year of my music career so far. My music studies in Metropolia University of Applied Sciences have been very beneficial for me as an artist and a songwriter as I’m now constantly writing new stuff with amazingly talented songwriters and producers. I hope that you stay tuned and follow my path in social media where I am much more active than here!

Hello everyone! I’ve been very inactive here with the blogging even though there has been A LOT going on with my music career during the last years. If you want to keep up I strongly recommend for you to follow me on Instagram @miisamay. I post a lot of Instagram stories every week about my music stuff and about life in general. If you haven’t followed my posts there lately, here comes some updates about what I’ve been up to.

First of all: In last November I released my own version that I made of Taylor Swift’s amazing Reputation track called “Don’t Blame Me”. I also produced the track and the version is very different from the Taylor’s original. Because I changed about everything from the tempo, genre, structure, melody, instrumentation to some lyrics even, I had to make sure everything was legal and I asked for a permission to release my adaptation from Taylor Swift’s representatives – and they said yes! Please go and take a listen to Don’t Blame Me (Miisa’s Version) from all music streaming services here.

Secondly, I am now officially studying my first year a Music Bachelor’s Degree in Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Music Writing and Production as my major. This is huge for me and I never imagined that I would make things work financially and get accepted there, but I did it. This is your sign to go for your dreams, because a few years ago this felt totally impossible to achieve. Sometimes when you want something badly enough you just make things work out. I have loved everything in my studies so far: I’m learning a lot of new things about making and producing music every day, I get to study things I’m extremely interested in and my 10 fellow students are amazingly talented and lovely people to hang out with. We all get a little imposter syndrome going on from time to time because we have different strenghts and weaknesses but that is also what’s so great about our group: there is always someone who can help you with things you need support with. I think we complement each other in all the best ways.

Third thing that I want to mention here is that in the beginning of this year I started as a keyboard player and backing vocalist of Elias Koivulehto’s new band called Täpinä. We had our first gig in February and it was so much fun to be in a totally different role that I’ve ever been in a band! I have always played the piano and accompanied myself while performing but never have I ever played an instrument of any kind in someone else’s band. The music is very different from my own music when it comes to tempo and rhytmics and I really had to rehearse a lot for the first gig, which means that I have also evolved as a keyboardist. I am very grateful for this opportunity and we have more gigs and an album recording coming up this year, so stay tuned! All of my upcoming gigs you can see here.

Lastly this is something I’ve not mentioned anywhere yet, but I have big plans for this year when it comes to music releases! This might be the biggest year for me as an artist yet. If you want to keep up with the updates the best way is, again, to follow my instagram.

Thank you for your interest in my music and for your support!
With love, Miisa May 💜

My Christmas single “Joulu baarissa” is out now!

November 25, 2023
This year has treated my music career very well. I’ve had the opportunity to sing at many events, both my own songs and covers. I’ve attended some great open mic events at many different venues that have brought me new friends in music, new inspiration, and new gig opportunities to mention some. I’ve won myself and my stage fear when accompanying myself with the piano.

In the beginning of this year I attended the first networking event which was really inspiring for me. After that I started to work a lot more to accomplish more goals in music: I’ve met a lot of new amazing and talented people in the music industry in Finland, attended many co-write sessions with different writers, attended my first songwriting camp and sent some demos out there and gotten mostly very positive feedback etc.

I even applied to a couple of jazz music courses at the Sibelius Academy and got in! So I’ve done some studying the whole fall semester and it will continue in the spring semester. I am very driven with my music career and it has been nice to see that doors will open when you just step out of your comfortzone and do the steps one at a time towards the goals.

Next week it is time to release music for the first time in a looooong time! One and a half months ago I woke up at five AM from a dream in which I was attending an open mic event. In the dream, as I sat in front of the piano, I realized I had forgotten all of my songs, so I decided to improvise a song and asked some words from the audience to include in the lyrics. When I woke up (way too early) the song “Joulu baarissa” (=Christmas at the bar) was playing in my head. I heard the melody, the chords and some of the lyrics so I just started to record it in my phone so that I wouldn’t forget it. Then I tried to sleep a bit more but couldn’t because the lyrics started to flow and I had to write them down.

During the next days I finished the demo in a short time and I was convinced that the song had to be released before Christmas. The reason I wanted to release the song, even though there would not be a lot of time to make the final version, was the important message of it. The lyrics tell fragments of a Christmas in different Finnish homes that are not so fortunate. I wanted to raise awareness about the fact that not everyone has it easy on Christmas. The lyrics are really sad and even gritty. I don’t want to be a Christmas Grinch but I wish the song could encourage people to help the disadvantaged if they can, and make the people who find Christmas time problematic feel seen or heard.

I produced and recorded the song all by myself. It is definitely not my strongest side but there was so little time I didn’t get anyone else to do it. Thankfully my old friend, amazing professional Christian Pulkkinen (who played on Dream Theater’s James LaBrie’s album by the way!) mixed and mastered the track! In the end I’m very proud of myself for producing the track and making this happen in such a short time.

So the song “Joulu baarissa” will be out on 1st of December, 2023, I really hope you like it!

With lots of love, Miisa ❤

I’m having a summer break after my first year as a full-time class teacher in elementary school. Now I have time for my music and I’m really excited about the summer! I’m going to have some private event gigs in the next few months so I’m going to spend a lot of time in my new music room / studio / office practicing. Hopefully soon I will be ready to start promoting some solo gigs on my own too! I’m currently writing new music and I am hoping to find a producer to work with some new stuff in the future. Stay tuned 🙂

My debut single ‘Treadmill’ and its music video are out now! Find the links here. I’m so excited for you to hear my music! This song was written already in 2018, first recorded in 2019 and now finally it is out. We re-recorded the vocals last summer in Suomenlinnan studio in Helsinki with guitar player and producer Patrik Tuominen and he mixed and mastered the whole thing together. This song is a fun song to listen to but it has meaningful lyrics so pay attention to the story too! Thank you for listening!

Hello, it’s Miisa here! I came to tell you some of my updates. In February we released a new song “En tunne mitään” with a Finnish dj-producer TAIKA and the song got a lot of great feedback from you guys so thank you so much! Thank you for listening to the song.

Right now I’m in the middle of a premiere week of a musical dance theatre show The Little Prince in which I play the lead part! I also composed music for the piece so this is extra important for me. We have been making this piece for over a year. Originally we were supposed to perform it in March but the corona situation has postponed our shows for several times. It feels surreal that now we get to perform it in front of a live audience that has nearly 20 people per show! Last night we had our premiere and it went really well. The feedback was truly wonderful and made me so happy. I’m just a little bit nervous about what a critic from a Finnish newspaper will write in their review. Hopefully they enjoyed the show as much as this little 6-year-old girl who said that she wants to come and watch all of our shows! ❤

On Wednesday I was interviewd for a local radio station, Auran Aallot, and the interview came out yesterday. It was a great interview and I felt like I got to tell a lot about the composing process, my love for the story of the Little Prince and my musical career and plans for the future. I think that they will post an article about our interview on their web page so I’ll post the link here if they do.

I’ve started to practice some new cover repertoire with a guitar player called Nabil and we will be selling some acoustic duo-gigs soon so stay tuned if you need some chill music for your parties or events. I’m also going to be in studio in two weeks and I have plans to release new music (in fact my real debut single!!!) in the end of the summer. Let’s hope that everything goes according to plans here!

Lastly, During this year I’ve been posting music related YouTube-videos weekly! So go check my videos out, give me some thumbs up and subscribe to my channel if you still havent, if you want to support me.

Thank you for your support,
Stay tuned ❤

With love, Miisa

Hello everyone! How are you? I just wanted to come here and tell that everything is good and although this has been a tough year for us all I’m still making music and there are things coming eventually! I have a few projects coming up that I’m really excited about. For example I’m playing the lead role in a musical dance theater show that we are rehearsing at the moment. We will perform it in March in Turku, Barker-theater. I also visited a nice studio this week to record some vocals for a project I can’t share with you yet but it’s going to be some good stuff let me tell you! Have a nice fall ❤

My first release is out now!

Ruusulle -kansikuva. © JeJo Production

I just released my first single on every streaming service! The song is called ‘Ruusulle’ and it’s in Finnish which is very extraordinary for me. The song is also much less of a pop-song that I usually write but I still love it because I do love musicals and this song is a melancholic musical ballad.

I actually wrote the song for a project that I will be a part of next year! It’s a musical dance theatre piece telling the story of the Little Prince that is a novella written in 1944 by the French author and a pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. We will perform it in Turku at Barker Teatteri in March 2021 and I will play the lead part of the Little Prince. I will also compose a couple more songs for the play. The choreographer and the director of the piece is my dance teacher Jenni Uimonen.

I’m really excited to get to play the part for many reasons. One of them is that when I was at second grade in elementary school I played the same part for our school play. That was like two decades ago! I’m also thrilled to be a part of a musical play because I just live for projects like this where I get to dance AND sing, my two favorite things. And what’s even better – it’s with our dance group that I otherwise would have had to leave due to my moving to Helsinki.

Hopefully I’ll see at least some of you in the audience next spring! In the mean time keep listening to the song and tell me what you think. You’ll find the link here. Thank you already for all the amazing feedback!

Long Time No See!

IMG_1335

Sorry that I have not been active here on my homepage lately! The past year has been all about ups and downs for me. Due to the circumstances I did not have any energy left for this site even though a lot was still happening! This spring has been very different for everyone of course and many of my friends (mostly musicians) have lost their jobs etc. Luckily everyone I know has stayed healthy. I just hope that everyone keeps taking things seriously even though it is very tiring living life this way we have to at the moment.

For me it has been a year of new things and finding myself again in many other ways too. I moved to a new city and I am much closer to the Finnish music scene now. Hopefully I will get to make some new music with my friends around here soon! I’m trying to stay really active on my instagram and post singing videos occasionally too. 🙂

As I said a lot has been happening! For example I participated in the most popular TV-show in Finland: The Voice of Finland and it was one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had in my life. I have only good things to say about the format in my experience and would warmly recommend it to every singer that is looking to find their way into the stars. There were amazingly talented singers and I was really lucky to be chosen into the blind auditions. I was extremely nervous and could not give my best performance when I should have hence I was not surprised that the coaches did not turn for me. I got so much love and great feedback out of the experience and don’t regret even for a moment that I took part of that amazing adventure. Maybe someday I will try again but for now I’m going to focus on making new music and hopefully publishing it somehow as soon as possible.

Lots of distance hugs for you all and thank you for supporting me and believing in me! It means the world to me! ❤

MIISA MAY updates

This week I graduated and became a professional musician, pop&jazz singing as my major subject! These two years focusing on music only have been the best two years of my life and I cannot wait what the future will bring. I got some great vocal coaching, mentoring and lots of support for my songwriting and not the least – amazing opportunities to perform and play with wonderful other musicians.

Achieving my dream has become achieving my GOAL and I do things everyday towards it. Thank you for everyone for your support! I am happy to say that I feel there are so many people hoping and believing that I will succeed besides myself. I would not be this far if it weren’t for you all who have helped me and been on this journey with me! Stay tuned for more 😉

Have a great and ice cream filled summer of 2019!!!

With lots of love,

Miisa ❤
